It's good for you!

Since Christmas I have been trying to diet..
Well not diet so much as eat more healthily and so far so good.!!!
Because we are spoilt for choice here in Queensland so far as fruit goes it has been pretty easy really.
We have been eating mostly fruit, vegies and salads with the occasional meat meal to keep up the protein.
There has been a glut of Mangoes this season in Queensland and they are literally dropping off the trees
so we have been gorging ourselves on them and throughly enjoying it!

But every now and then, you know what it's like when you're dieting or trying to be healthy you crave something sweet?
Well I've discovered this gorgeous organic chocolate (must be good for you if it's organic right?).
Green and Black's Organic Milk Chocolate. It really is nice and you can find it in the supermarket  on the shelf where you find all the other chocolate...I believe their dark one is great too, but I don't like dark chocolate.
Of course moderation is the word here, but who can honestly say that they can stop at just one or two pieces of chocolate?
Not me!!

"I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process.......
It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance?"

Australia Day 2010

Citizenship Ceremony.

Here are a few shots I took this morning at the Citizenship Ceremony held in the Lions park by the river in Noosaville.
Lots of very happy people became Australian citizens today and they were welcomed by the Mayor Bob Abbott, the local Aboriginal community, family and friends

Mosaic Monday

White Lilies......They said  'buy me' so how could I refuse!!!

Anyway, it's been way too long since I have featured a flower picture on my blog so I thought what better way to show off  these beauties than in a mosaic...hope you enjoy them as much as I do!!!
By the way, just as an aside, my paternal grandmother's name was Lily Blanche...White Lily.

Creative Every Day challenge......

I have just joined Leah at Creative Every Day where creative people can  post their 'creations' and get to see what all those other creative people are up to.
While I am just beginning to put my ideas into actual creations I know this challenge will be a lot of fun for me.
Each month Leah chooses a word for inspiration to help us along a bit .
The word for January is ...BODY.
I chose to start a journal and to just see what happens...and chose HANDS.
Here's a couple of picks of the work in progress.....

ten minutes by the river

As I sat by the river this afternoon on the way back from my walk I took these few shots.I was only there for ten minutes or so but as usual the river was a hive of activity. This boat the Ocean Rider  heads out to the open sea and gives the passengers a thrill for their money surging through the waves on the bar at the rivermouth!!

This little boat sells ice-creams and drinks to any thirsty fishermen out on the river.

The Noosa River Ferries( there are two of them) are always out there.

The footpath by the river goes all the way to the Yacht Club, and it is a lovely walk as it meanders along side the river with lots of scenic spots to rest and admire the views, and you can even walk all the way to Tewantin if you are fit enough.

There is always someone throwing in a line off this little jetty

Dogs are not allowed off leash..but I guess these fellas didn't see the sign!

Feeling crafty

handicraft~manual art,trade or skill.....
handiwork~things done or made by the hand.....

I often "feel"crafty and "feel" like making things and have a lot of crafty stuff stashed away in boxes....
sadly not all ideas come to fruition, but I have a lot of fun looking and playing with all the beads, ribbons, buttons and paper etc.

If something actually materialises I will display it proudly here on my little blog!!
I love the pale mauve and mint green handmade paper....couldn't resist buying it this morning at "crazy clarks" So cheap too!!

My World Tuesday

The Majestic Theatre.Pomona.Queensland.

Pomona is a lovely little town inland from Noosa and about a half an hour drive away.
The day we visited we also stopped at the Majestic theatre and had lunch in the cafe there.
The Majestic has a facinating history and is well known for its" silent film nights" which still continue today.

The Majestic Theatre was constructed in 1921 as a multi purpose hall catering not only for films but also for dances, debutante balls, concerts, stage plays ,roller skating, boxing matches and other community functions.
The travelling picture show man called at regular intervals to show silent films in the early years and then in 1923 the hall was leased to Harold "Picture" Page a local identity who obtained the cinema license which has continued ever since.
A supper room ( which now houses the organ)was added in 1925.
The first talkie was screened at the Majestic in April 1931.

Through the 40's ,50's and 60's films were screened on Wed, Fri, and Sat nights and seven nights a week during the War years when troops from a nearby army base provided a capacity audience..
But then television started to make an impact and audiences dwindled until 1973 when Ron West took over the Majestic and in 1987 the theatre reverted to screening only silent films with Ron featuring on the organ.
From 1987  till 2006 every Thursday night there was a screening of  Rudolf Valentino in The Son of the Sheik.
In 2006 the Majestic was transfered to community ownership.
The Majestic still holds functions and shows movies on a regular basis and every Thurs night there is a "fork and film" night for only $25.
All this information I got from the Majestic website.here

Mosaic Monday

I love shells so for today's Mosaic Monday I have put together a collection of them.....
I have tried a slightly bigger mosaic for today just to see how it would look. What do you think?
I really enjoy doing mosaics and its fun to find things with a theme and put them all together to tell a little story.
I used to pick up shells all the time off the beach but that is a "no no " now!!!
These days you can pick up bags of them from craft shops and gift shops and thats where most of these have come from.
One thing I pick up off the beach now instead of shells is sea glass. The really colourful glass such as blue and red are hard to find ,there is mostly brown (from beer bottles probably) but even some of these can be beautiful if they have been in the water for a long time.

When I get a good collection of sea glass I will put them together in a mosaic.

Weekend Reflections

Last year,in Feb,we went to the open day at the Melbourne Recital Centre,a fantastic place and definately worth having a look .(Our son works there but we're not biased at all !)

There was a young guy there playing these glass bells which sounded pretty nice, but I was taken by the beautiful reflections they were giving off  and the view of the Performing Arts Centre Spire in the background .

Here is a shot of him playing the bells and also another photo showing some beautiful pink glass bells.
I have more photos of this beautiful venue that I will share with you on another post.

P.S. The day we were here just happened to be Black Saturday the day of the devastating fires that raged throughout  parts of Victoria. The venue was airconditioned thankfully as the Temp soared to 47deg C.

Catamaran corner

Here is another shot of the sunset taken last night,Wed.13th Jan.
The little bay to the right has been dubbed "catamaran corner" as this is the spot where you can see some seriously big catamarans moored during the day time while their owners fish ,swiw ,shop etc in Noosa.
Most of the time these big "cats" are moored further up the river in Noosaville but you see them often gliding past on their way down to the rivermouth for the day.You can just make one out in the very right of the photo.
Of course there are lots of smaller craft as well.It is a beautiful river to sail on.
Noosa beach and Hastings Street are just to the right of the picture.

Noosa Sunset

Sunset over the river this evening from the lookout at Noosa National Park.

shave ice and cool drinks

When we go to the beach we prefer to sit up the beach a bit between the two groynes. It's a lot easier to get a carpark and there is more room to spread out.One drawback is that there are no shops nearby if you happen to need a drink or fancy an ice-cream.
No worries!, as this little mobile drinks cart cruises up and down the sand a few times a day selling shave ice ice creams and cold drinks.Very convenient.....we have used it a number of times!!!

My World Tuesday

Another Mosaic today for My World Tuesday.

All these photos were taken on the same day just before sunset on Noosa Main Beach. There is always something happening and lots to look at and every weekend, it seems ,there is a Wedding on the beach and lots and lots of photos taken of the happy couple! They don't seem to mind that the surfers are coming and going and getting in the shot.I guess it all adds to the feel of the day.A great place for a wedding though don't you think?
